South Pacific Open

Natasha Phillips-Edgar will be taking on Australia’s best at the South Pacific Open

The annual Ulladulla South Pacific Open Australian Money Tournament (AMT) is being held at the Ulladulla Tennis Centre on 18 December 2019 – 21 December 2019 as part of the Australian Summer of Tennis.

The South Pacific Open is a Tennis Australia sanctioned Australian Ranking Gold Series Tournament. Australian Money Tournaments, AMTs, are semi-professional tournaments introduced by Tennis Australia in 2006.

They are designed to create quality match play opportunities and help with post junior athlete transition.

AMT’s run as a tiered circuit of tournaments consisting of Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze, based on prize money levels offered to the open events.

In total, one hundred and sixty-nine tournaments across Australia make up the Australian Money Tournament series in 2019, giving all players the opportunity to lower their Australian Ranking.

Across the Australian states and territories in 2019, there are twenty-eight tournaments that offer the highest amount of points outside the AMT Platinum Series.

These are grouped as the AMT Gold Series and offer a total of $7,500 in prize money. This year, with some increased sponsorship, the South Pacific Open is offering $8,000 total prize money and consists of equal prize money for the Men’s and Women’s events.

Since its inception, the South Pacific Open regularly attracts six to eight male and female players ranked in the top 100 of the Australian Rankings, and yes, that is the list headed by Ash Barty in the Women’s and Alex De Minaur in the Men’s. Anton Willett in the Men’s draw and Natasha Phillips-Edgar in the Women’s are the highest ranked local players, and will be looking to take advantage of playing in the familiar surroundings of the Ulladulla Tennis Centre. Spectators are welcome to watch the high-quality tennis on offer as entry is free of charge.
