Victor Chang Research Science Awards for our students
Victor Chang Science Award winners
It is with great honour that we congratulate Alana Doyle and Axel Nurdin for being awarded the Victor Chang Science Award for their exceptional dedication to their studies and enthusiasm for Science. They are hardworking, open minded young people who have connected to the diversity of opportunities of learning that Science provides.
Both students were presented with their award on the 22 November 2019 at a formal ceremony in Wollongong with parents and their Science Teachers. This is an outstanding opportunity and we look forward to the ongoing achievement of students at Ulladulla High School in the sciences. Congratulations Axel and Alana.
Students Share Plans to Protect Our Environment with the Mayor, Council and School Principal
Last term, Year 10 Geography students researched two future developments that could occur in our local area: the expansion of Ulladulla harbour, and the idea of ‘biobanking’ bushland up for sale in Narrawallee to protect it from clearing. After weeks of hard work, site studies, interviews, surveys and extensive secondary research, students created some outstanding reports.
Hospitality students at Frineds of the School luncheon
The best reports from across Year 10 were selected, and students shared their ideas at a special lunch with their Principal, Mayor Councillor Amanda Findley, Council water quality engineer Mark Stone, as well as their very proud Year Advisor, Ms Knight and Head Teacher of the HSIE Faculty, Mr Barry. Ms Bunyan and Ms Lowe acknowledged the hard work of these students in becoming so well-informed and active in caring for country.
Students voiced their passion for protecting our pristine waterways, threatened species and climate. Copies of their reports were shared with the Principal, Mayor and expert guest, who commended the in-depth and high-quality nature of their reports.
Friends of the School luncheon guests
Our guests noted that many of these Environmental Management Plans were of such high quality that they met or even surpassed professional standards. Well done to these students for their deep engagement and learning. Their commitment to being active, informed citizens and caring for our country is inspirational.
